Freediving

Freediving or breath-hold diving is a type of advanced snorkelling and in-water adventure that allows enthusiastic people to experience the sights, sounds and challenges of the most natural of underwater experiences. Freediving allows you to peacefully interact with the aquatic environment.
The purpose of Freediving is to be able to enjoy diving whilst remaining unhampered by breathing apparatus such as scuba equipment. Freedivers can, on a single breath of air, explore the underwater realm for minutes at a time in comfort. Human evolution and development has ingrained us with an underwater potential the same as our marine cousins, whales, seals and dolphins. Research shows that we were once aquatic animals, which lived and breathed in the sea. The memory of that former self still resides deep within us and it has even been studied and named - the mammalian diving reflex. This term describes the physiological changes that occur when mammals (whether whales, dolphins or potentially us) hold their breath and dive beneath the sea for extended periods of time. The nature of Freediving allows you to slip without falling into the depths of the blue in a state of euphoria and relaxation. Freediving is about the comfort and exploration of the ocean realm for recreation, competition or personal discovery.

The largest organisation for freedive education is AIDA, International Association for the Development of Apnea. AIDA is recognised worldwide and is your gateway to ensure quality freediving wherever you are for fun dives, training, competitions and world record recognition.

At the heart of AIDA courses lies the need to ensure your safety and that of others diving with you, protection of the environment and a fun and enjoyable teaching atmosphere. Courses are well balanced between the academics, equipment usage, pool skills and open water experiences.

Freedive Egypt is the only place you can learn to freedive in Hurghada with a qualified AIDA freediving instructor. As well as being an AIDA freediving instructor Suzanne is also a PADI SCUBA Diving instructor and can therefore not only teach you to freedive she can also help you to reduce your air consumption while SCUBA diving and teach you how to relax in the water whatever activity you are undertaking.

Suzanne has been on the UK Freediving Team since 2002 for World Championships that have taken place in Hawaii, Vancouver and Egypt! While in Vancouver she also qualified as an AIDA Judge and has had the pleasure of judging a number of World and National Records for competitors from around the world. Suzanne has also competed in regional competitions in the UK, Dahab, Greece and Cyprus.
